Delinquent Taxes Like Paralysis in Local Government
A Detroit Bureau of Governmental Research leaflet quoted by the Taxpayers Association of New Mexico warns that unpaid taxes are a creeping paralysis harming local government. The piece notes essential industrial age government requirements persist even as people lack funds to pay. Tax titles are usually redeemed, but unredeemed titles freeze capital and force localities to buy in unpaid taxes, keeping them on the books as uncollected.

Airmail Hero Vance Dies After Plane Fire Destruction
Air mail pioneer Vance died in a Sierra Nevada plane fire after earlier flights and close brushes with death. He survived a 1923 San Francisco Bay dive in a disabled craft, was rescued by a tug, and endured a blizzard trapping him above the Sierras before resurfacing with an infant son born six weeks earlier. He had worked on a transcontinental plan and left a widow in Oakland.
