Air Mail Hero Dies In Flaming California Crash

Danville California December 19 AP veteran air mail pilot Claire Kinsey Vance 35 died in a fiery crash while attempting the Oakland to Sacramento valley route. He disappeared after radio reports failed and the wreckage was found near Rocky Ridge four miles west of Danville. Vance a celebrated pilot began his airmail career in 1920 and was noted for expertise on the San Francisco Reno Salt Lake division. The loss marked another perilous day in early airmail service with fog and instrument reliance cited by officials.

Longview Texas December 19 AP The Texas Railroad Commission orders 9 300 wells in the east Texas field shut from noon Saturday to January 1 to gauge bottom hole pressure only two gauges exist in the mid-continent area The commission asks large oil companies to lend 13 gauges amid a near 100 percent shutdown that could remove about 4 3 million barrels from the market Prices for crude fell from 1 to 1 12 and then to 75 77 cents per barrel after last week’s cuts.

Dexter man dies after cattle run in New Mexico

Thomas Kirkland aged 63 died of an acute heart attack near his home two miles northeast of Dexter while running cattle with his son and another boy. 17 Hour Coast to Coast Service Inaugurated

Clyde Pangborn started the inaugural 17 hour coast to coast air express from Floyd Bennett Field with 771 pounds of freight aboard a 525 horsepower Wasp powered craft. The second westbound flight departed as Mrs. Curtis Dull Roosevelt, daughter of the president elect, was to dedicate the service. Flights carry no passengers or mail and stop at Wichita, Columbus, St. Louis, Albuquerque, and Seligman before reaching Burbank.

Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff Missing

Joe Johnson of Carrizozo in Lincoln County has been missing since Thursday after a stop at E T Amonett store where he and Earnest Richards bought overshoes. Mrs Johnson reported the absence and asked Chaves County aid. Sheriff Brady said he did not know Johnson's business in Roswell. calls for any information.
