Middlesboro Kentucky December 18 1940s air planes and heavily armed peace officers from three states hunted a father and son who fled after Deputy Sheriff George Fisher was killed and two officers wounded in a wooded border region. Bell county attorney Walter B Smith led the effort describing it as the biggest man hunt in eastern Kentucky mountains with 150 officers and up to 600 men aided by tracking dogs and three private airplanes. The fugitives allegedly fled after the shooting as officers waited for a man they had arrested to finish breakfast.
