Errors In Social Security Wage Reports In April to June

Wage reports to the Social Security Board for April, May, and June totaled more than 7 lion dollars. Preliminary returns show less than 1 percent lacked an account number for John Does, about 3.5 percent had a wrong name or number, and these rates can drop to under 0.5 percent after rechecking. Perry A. Webb, Roswell field office manager, says 1,872,000 employers and 288,000 workers are affected, with 375 field offices following up to correct incomplete items. A wage item may be suspended temporarily if an account number is missing or misrecorded but this does not imply a permanent discrepancy. Safeguards and rechecking reduce errors, ensuring accurate wage accounting.
