New Mexico extends oil and gas ban near Chaco Culture Park
Governor Garcia Richard signed an executive order extending a 20 year moratorium on oil and gas leasing on state land around Chaco Culture National Historical Park. The order covers over 113 square miles in northwestern New Mexico and aligns with a federal 20 year pause. Tribal leaders welcomed the step as protection for culturally significant lands and a key to future congressional action.
