Rick Lamb of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chaves and Lincoln Counties announced a surprise for more than 50 children. Festive first responders arrived in green and gold outfits, guiding the kids outside toward a food truck and event activities.
Artesia Mayor and Eddy County Commissioner Jon Henry a Republican announced to the Roswell Daily Record his candidacy for the New Mexico House District 54 seat next November. Henry 45, born in Cloudcroft, notes the district spans Eddy and Otero counties with a Chaves County precinct and says he is excited to serve the district. State Rep Jim Townsend who was elected in 2014 will not seek reelection to pursue the open Senate District 34 seat, prompting Henry to consider the campaign after Townsend’s plans became clear.

More than 1,300 Roswell residents lost power Thursday when a disabled line caused an electric pole fire near Fourth Street and Virginia Avenue. Crews isolated the pole and restored service by 3:57 p.m. Traffic lights were affected and traffic was diverted.
