Dr E P Johnson says funds are available to purchase 110 200 head of cattle in drought affected southeastern New Mexico. Purchases total near 488 000 head with some condemned, restocked, or slaughtered. Eastern state allotments favored by severity. exact allotment sizes not released.
Federal agents reported another 330000 of ransom paid for oil magnate Charles Urschell recovered, bringing total recovered to 124000. Urschell's family paid 200000 for his release after earlier recoveries in Texas and three jars of ransom bills found at Scott's Medford home. Warmer news followed from Geneva as League of Nations discussed Hungary Yugoslavia crisis with France standing beside Yugoslavia.
A sweeping winter storm caused numerous fatalities from the Rockies to the Midwest and East. Reported deaths included seven in Michigan from heat stove accidents and crashes, two in Iowa, and a fatal bus collapse on Snoqualmie Pass in Washington. A farmer in Iowa, 82, reportedly froze to death while walking in his sleep after removing a window screen.
Washington reports the Department of Agriculture final season estimate at 9 751 000 bales of 600 pounds each, up from 9 634 000 a month ago. Census data show 9 029 792 running bales ginned by Dec 1, with state totals including Arizona 80 195 and Texas 2 176 691.

William McAdoo, 30, cousin of Senator William Gibbs McAdoo, and Lucille Walker, 22, film actress, admit eloping to Phoenix and marrying. McAdoo, a Carlsbad New Mexico businessman, met the actress on a business trip and plans to settle there after her current film project ends.
Tulsa, Okla, Dec 8 AP report: W Adelaney, 63, after a Friday night search over fears he was kidnapped, returned home early today. He said he had been detained by business duties.
Santa Fe dispatch reports two youths Otto Cox aged 20 and Rex Williams aged 19 who robbed the Hot Springs bank were jailed in the New Mexico state penitentiary within hours of the crime. They were delivered to the warden by Sheriff Lorenzo A. Armijo of Sierra County and will serve seven to nine year terms.
More than 500 people were arrested and thousands of dollars in narcotics seized in nationwide raids across major cities. Authorities said several mail order narcotics operations were dismantled, with Chicago reporting the heaviest activity and Cleveland prompted by mothers pleading to Save our children. Opium heroin and morphine were recovered in bulk as investigators traced a nationwide organization.
Santa Fe, Dec 8 AP. About 2000 tax certificates were issued to the state for delinquent taxes on properties in Santa Fe county. The sale ended yesterday after bids, with ten certificates sold. The largest land parcel, 1895 acres of the San Marcos pueblo grant near Cerrillos, assessed to L D Davidson of El Dorado Kansas, carried $379.05 in taxes and was bought by the School of American Research, a parcel containing ruins and pottery.
At a special meeting the board of county commissioners rescinded its action approving a FERA art project to paint murals in the county courthouse. Minutes note reconsideration of the December 6 1934 proposal and unanimous decision against expenditure of up to 55.
About 2,700 children attended free performances at the Yucca and Princess theatres as part of Santa Claus day. Ted Jones praised orderly behavior and warned against crossing mid block. Forty six hundred children greeted Santa Claus in Roswell today receiving a box or sack of candy from Santa and his helpers. It was the largest crowd for Santa’s annual visit, eclipsing the previous high of 3200. The distribution took over an hour and a half as youngsters passed by a big tree on Main Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets, with Santa arriving promptly at one o'clock.

Madrid New Mexico earns the title of best decorated town during the holidays as residents labor to outdo prior efforts. About one hundred people spent a day last Sunday setting up trees and lights, with roughly 200 outdoor trees planned along streets. Officials invite visitors to view the seasonal display.
Boston reports a repeated kidnap scare involving Eugene Grew, 11, niece of the U S Ambassador to Japan. A man phoned the Grew home again saying he was the same person who called earlier, implying a kidnapping plot. Police traced the call to a downtown phone. the family remains alarmed as investigators continue.
