News from Port Arthur reports a resumed Japanese advance against General Kuropatkin with three armies coordinating to envelop Liao Yang. Battles east and south of Liao Yang persist as fronts push along the Liao river and Liandianjian area.
United States Department of Agriculture orders the Sheep Sanitary Board to dip all New Mexico flocks to eradicate scab. All sheep must be dipped immediately with a second dip ten days later for infected animals and at least once more by October 20 1904 for clean stock under inspector supervision. Public dipping sites require permits and inspector presence. fines apply for noncompliance. Also notes a Grand Central bar event and a fight report from Western Union on August 26.
In a meeting with Chicago City Council G O N F E R union leaders and Packers discussed celebratory plans noting that John Hay and General Porter are among the few Americans to receive the Legion of Honor. Ferdinand Peck and Charlemagne Tower hold high ranks, with several others across fields earning cross levels of the order.
In California two points Needles and Bakersfield see a permanent injunction against strikers interfering with shop operations. A San Bernardino case is under advisement. Las Vegas August 26 Charley Ballard of Roswell was unanimously chosen as the council candidate. The Territorial convention later adjourned after pledging support for Money of Las Vegas and adopting resolutions on statehood and the Silver Plank. Ballot at 2:10 named Money 117 Simpson 36 with a motion to declare unanimous.

Public notice states a single plank sidewalk block remains in good condition and directs applicants to the Record Office to apply for further action or clarification.
A woman intends to sell a railroad ticket to Kansas City and will apply at the records office to complete the transaction.
J A Graham superintendent of the New Mexico agricultural and horticultural display reports the terr itorial exhibit as best in the building. He notes 20 plates featuring peaches pears plums grapes and more with each plate a choice and mentions head judges have had photos taken of apples and pears including a full table of pears.
Paris marks the Legion of Honor centenary with a grand military display attended by President Loubet and officials including American ambassador General Horace Porter. The ceremony begins with a review of troops and will be followed by celebratory fetes near Boulogne where Napoleon distributed honors.
St Louis reports Liberal Arts day features an aerial race for the Washington Monument with a $5,000 prize. George T. Tomlinson of Syracuse will make the first official run using a new silk bag capable of 15 000 cubic feet. Tomlinson holds the county’s record for the longest excursion flight set last year in Cambridge, New York.
San Jose opens the Prohibition state convention with nearly three hundred accredited delegates and many visitors. The gathering at the Unitarian church begins the organization today as presidential electors arrive and candidates for Congress are nominated.
San Francisco reports both Jeffries and Monroe prepared for their glove bout tonight. Crowds from across the country expect a $30,000 receipts event with light betting favoring the champion at about 100 to 5.
The Christian church ladies will serve ice cream and cake during a band concert on the courthouse lawn Friday at 7 30 p m.

Worcester mass August 26 Senator Hoar is quiet with no essential change in his condition after a night that was not as good as the night before. The bulletin issued today notes he did not have quite so good a night.
Antwerp reports a vast blaze at Hoboken oil tanks containing about twenty six million gallons of petroleum. High winds hinder firefighting as troops aid crews. most tanks were destroyed and losses run into millions of francs. Four workers killed, only two of forty tanks saved.
Deming New Mexico August 26 The washout damage on the Santa Fe railroad near Isleta Junction on the Rio Grande south of Albuquerque was temporarily repaired last night Five cars of soldiers on the train helped laborers clear damage in two places Five more trains have reached Deming and seven more are moving toward the point They will be transferred to the Southern Pacific and if delays persist will reach Los Angeles Saturday night or Sunday morning
Rev W F E Lyon of the Methodist Church will be in the pulpit on the county Sabbath and preach the sermon. He has returned much refreshed from a vacation spent at Colonia Juarez and Mexico. Mr Lyon reports enjoying the trip.
Mr. W. T. Parker from Corsicana visits The Record office and notes the growth of Roswell. He once bought city lots from Col Ava E. Page, four years ago, and now finds their value risen six to eight hundred percent. Parker plans to sell in Texas and return to make Roswell his future home. Robert W. Prosser of Pecos City also arrives in Roswell.
