Roswell flood study backs detention plan for Hondo flow

County officials in Roswell support a state led flood control plan proposed after the 1937 flood. The scheme uses a detention dam on Rocky Arroyo and a diversion dam on the Hondo with two outlet culverts and rehabilitation of old Hondo reservoir gates. The goal is to retard floodwaters and safely pass them through the Lower Hondo Valley without extensive damage. The plan, reviewed by federal engineers and chamber leaders, aims for early completion and emphasizes simplicity and local protection over long term storage.
