Flooding from the Castlewood Dam failure sent floodwater 35 miles toward Denver. Two dead and five missing as thousands work to rebuild. bridges and infrastructure damaged with losses estimated near a million dollars. Rescue crews mobilized, including 3000 unemployed drafted for pumps, brooms, and shovels.
The Blue Eagle symbol is praised by National Recovery Administration chiefs as a sign of progressive change. The campaign promotes shorter hours higher pay and more jobs with broad reach across industry and business. In Michigan three communities faced threats over enforcing a 5 30 closing time amid NRA pressure.
A jail in Las Cruces New Mexico holds Jess Waggoner 26 awaiting Arkansas officers to extradite him to Paris Arkansas on bank robbery and murder charges. Waggoner refused to waive extradition and is linked only as a speaking acquaintance of Pretty Boy Floyd not an accomplice.
At a special meeting the Chaves County commissioners withdrew earlier highway recommendations and proposed a new program funded entirely by federal aid. Projects total 78 250 dollars including grading drainage and paving near Lake Arthur, Pecos river bridges on S R 1 Hagerman to Lovington and on road from Dexter east, and rebuilds on Kenna Olive and Roswell routes with bridges. Representatives from Dexter Hagerman and Roswell Chamber of Commerce approved the plan.
A late yesterday shower brought Roswell 0.33 inch, lifting the annual total to 3.00 inches with a statewide spread of rain across eastern New Mexico and parts of Texas Colorado and Wyoming. Roads stayed passable though some areas were muddy. Clovis reported no rain.

New York August 4 Helen Wills Moody captain of the U S Wightman Cup team will not play this afternoon against Great Britain due to a back injury. Sarah Palfrey is named to play singles in Moody’s place.

A new board of directors for the First National Bank of Artesia was appointed after the former board resigned at two meetings on July 28 and 29. The new board includes T. H. Flint Tom Heflin J. H. Bridgman Hope Willis Morgan Jim Berry John Runyan and Paul G. Schultz of Roswell. Officers named to serve until the annual election are T. H. Flint president H. G. Watson vice-president and L. F. Feather cashier. Both officers and directors volunteered to serve until the annual election.
H. C. Somels, visiting from Elkins, notes a good rainfall last night across Elkins and a broad region to the north and west. He adds there was also a good rain the prior night at Bosque Grande.
Felix Arias aged 0 died suddenly after illness at his Roswell home on Mulberry Street. He had lived in Roswell six years, previously from Las Cruces, and worked on local ranches. Survived by widow, two sons and a daughter. Funeral 9:30 Saturday at St John’s Catholic Church. Burial in South Park. Kaallard Funeral Home directing.
The Roswell Giants left at 1 30 this afternoon for Amarillo to play in the News Globe tournament beginning tomorrow. Roswell businessmen contributed about 125 dollars to cover trip expenses. Before leaving, Farmer the coach said the Giants stood a good chance to win the tournament.

The Community Builders Association of Southern New Mexico will hold an organization meeting at Cliqudcroft at 1 30 p m next Sunday August 6. The event brings together local leaders to establish the association and coordinate regional development.
H H Davidson died suddenly from a heart attack at 4 30 this morning at his home 111 North Washington Roswell He was 58 and had not been bed ridden for the past week He came to Roswell five years ago from Wichita Falls Texas and operated Dustin's News Stand for two years He is survived by his widow daughter Mrs R L De Mont a mother Mrs C Davidson of Seymour Texas a brother L P Davidson of Ft Worth and five sisters Mrs James A Britton Miss Lina Davidson Mrs Clara Watlington Mrs Wesley Smith and Mrs Aliie Hayes Funeral services will be in Wichita Falls with Schuler's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements
J E Marsh died last night at his home in Okolona Arkansas. He visited Roswell in 1923 and will be remembered by local residents. Funeral services are planned for Saturday in Okolona, but J Freeman Marsh cannot attend.
Pabillo was arrested yesterday by Frank Young, chief of police, and turned over to county officers. He faces arraignment Monday on stealing a pistol.
A son was born today at St Marys Hospital to Mr and Mrs BN McMaine of Roswell.
