Police intervened to quell a riot at the New York convention hall as delegates clashed over a resolution. Police cleared aisles and escorted belligerent delegates back to their seats before the motion to adjourn was declared carried. A sacred concert at the Presbyterian Church is announced for Friday evening. Russell builds new wagons.
Three bids were opened for the Roswell bonds during the council meeting last night. The bids were reviewed for feasibility and potential terms to fund the project.
The City Council and Water Works Commission opened three bids totaling 170000 for water, sewer, fire house and street work. Two bids offered six percent, one five and a half percent, with the six percent option favored for full price plus lower attorney and delivery costs. A second reading and decision were scheduled for tonight.
Local police struggle to keep order during a streetcar strike in Chester as authorities call in troops to restore control.
In Chester Pennsylvania a claim agent and a motorman of the Chester Traction Company were shot and severely wounded as workers attempted to move a car from the barns amid a crowd. Governor Stuart ordered three state police companies to restore order after local police could not control the mob.

A. J. Davidson, president of the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, visiting New York after a Southwest trip, says farmers are optimistic and plan larger plantings. He notes excellent winter wheat in the areas he visited and a rise in railroad traffic over the last sixty days, with expectations of further improvement.
Wm. J. Bryan spoke in Lansing last night as the Democratic state central committee refused to endorse his presidential candidacy. He left at 2:00 this morning and noted the Minnesota committee had endorsed Governor Johnson, signaling divides within the party.

Circuit Court of Appeals upholds a 320000 fine against the Santa Fe railroad for rebates to the Grand Canyon Cement Company of Arizona. Indictments against J S Schirman Lime and Cement Company were continued to July, with other Santa Fe actions postponed pending appellate decision. Attorney General Bonaparte arranged the postponement by telegraph. Mrs C H Hale and Miss Wilson open a new millinery store at 314 North Richardson, in the old Evans boarding house.
The Minnesota Republican convention met in Minneapolis on April 16 to select four delegates at large to the national convention. The resolutions report instruct the delegates for Taft and endorse Roosevelt's administration.
