Ringleader of five life-timers plotted prison break

The New Mexican reports W. B. Hall of Chaves county, serving life for murder since 1903, identified as ringleader in a five man "life-timers" escape plot from the penitentiary. It notes that Tuesday afternoon John O'Brien, a young convict jailed for horse stealing with a one year sentence, was searched prior to his release.

General Palmer Dead in Albany After Civil War Wound

Albany April 15 General John Palmer former commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic died at his home from a spine wound received in the Civil War. He was a prominent G A R member and served as New York secretary of state for five years after being elected on the Republican ticket in 1895.

Admitted to Bail for Cassie Chadwick in Multiple Cases

Mrs Cassie L Chadwick, already convicted and sentenced to ten years for obtaining money by false pretenses, was admitted to bail in 5000 by U S Circuit Judge Lurton. She remains under heavy bonds in other cases, bringing total bonds to 52000. J P Dawl ey, chief counsel, said the 5000 bond is in addition to 347000 and 5000 more, totaling 52000, with no immediate discussion on sureties.

The Salt River head dam at the Arizona Canal began disintegrating yesterday but is holding together better than expected. Reports indicate only about three hundred feet have collapsed and the river is falling rapidly as of Apr 15 in Phoenix.

Farmers Respond Nobly to Sugar Beet Seed Distribution

Farmers showed strong interest in the sugar beet project as seventy-five people, including a dozen from Dexter and about as many from Hagerman, gathered at the Roswell Commercial Club to receive seeds and instructions. Each applicant received seed, with planting instructions to be mailed soon.
