Court opened at nine with Judge William H. Pope presiding United States Marshal Foraker announced the session Grand jurors were screened and named including S J Radberts M C Stewart I S Osborn and others Petit jurors were selected with several absentees excused One defendant case set for trial and venue moved to Albuquerque for convenience Lost in the Wilds.

President’s return trip limited stops planned in Denver and Chicago

Glenwood Springs Colorado April 17 no word reached headquarters from the President today. The return itinerary is set with two official stops for receptions and speeches at Denver and Chicago. He will likely speak briefly at other places but no set speeches or receptions are scheduled beyond those two cities. Russian fleet definitely located north of Saigon.

Imperial Rescript to set Zemstvos in three provinces

The czar will introduce Zemstvos in Irkutsk Tomsk and Tobolsk as part of Siberian popular representation. Reports from Saigon and Kamranh bay discuss Russian naval movements and the voyage of Admiral Rozestvensky toward Cochin China. Telegrams note torpedo boats shipped to Vladivostok and sightings of Russian ships off Kamranh Bay with limited official confirmation of engagements north of the Natuuna islands.

Maxey Sells Elk Saloon Half Interest to Ele rick

J W Maxey sells his half interest in the Elk saloon to Fred Ele rick of Waco for 10300 dollars. The deal includes a half interest in the building stock and fixtures and mentions Ele rick as brother of Al Ele rick of Dexter.

New firm forms in town as saloon changes hands

Business and the valuable elk heads at the saloon. The new firm will be P. C. Jacoby and Fred Elerick, Mr. Jacoby retaining his interest. The new proprietor is now visiting relatives in Minneapolis, but will return in six weeks. Mr. Maxey will leave about the first of the month for the Isthmus of Panama, where he will open a cold storage plant. He says he is out of the saloon business for good.

Alderman Lincoln Whiteman went to Artesia last night for a day's business visit. Gus Beidleman returned this morning from Artesia. Mrs. J. B. Infield came in this morning from Artesia for a visit with Mrs. Nortreet. Ethel Brown, John Richey, Harry Hamilton, and others were up from Artesia today. Fred Miller, RE. F. Hardwick, Harold Feaman, and Mrs. J. L. Koonce were also linked to Artesia in weekend or morning travel and visits.
