Zero tillage trims field time and costs for Manitoba farms
Manitoba farm managers estimate zero tillage saves about 250 hours of field work per year split between spring and fall. Trials by four Northwestern Manitoba co operators show reduced machinery investment from 220 to 165 per hectare and operating costs from 57 to 40 per hectare, offset by higher chemical costs. Yields expected to match or exceed conventional tillage as weeds and spray timing become critical.
