Parkland Ukrainian Pioneer Association hosts Aug 28 event
A large turnout of about three hundred people gathered at St Marys Church Leecs for a Parkland Ukrainian Pioneer Association celebration. Attendees traveled from Radville Winnipeg Brandon and Erickson. The program included church services a cemetery commemoration lunch an audio visual presentation speeches by Mae Chwaluk Roger Lowe Bill Burgess and Harry Graham a concert of Ukrainian singing dancing and music and a raffle for two Hudson Bay blankets and a Ukrainian ceramic. Winners were Donna Buternowsky Leech Manitoba Shelley Hurst The Pas Manitoba and Paul Mentuck Brandon Manitoba. The group plans an 80th Homecoming in summer 1979.

Fine weather for holiday weekend

Riding Mountain Park announces closing dates for summer facilities
George Rochester, superintendent, lists closing dates for Riding Mountain National Park summer facilities. Wasagaming campground and Manita group camp close September 17, followed by Lake Audy Moon Lake campgrounds and Kippechewin group camp on October 9. Lake Katherine campground golf course and tennis remain open or free until late September. Interpretive Centre opens weekends until October 1 and Information Centre also weekends until October 1.

Deadline set for Advisory Committee nominations in Wheat Board race
George Turner, coordinator for the Canadian Wheat Board election, says nominations close September 15. Brochures with forms were mailed to Wheat Board permit holders in July. Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and reside in the designated area, with 25 witnessed producer signatures and a $100 deposit. the 11 member Producer Advisory Committee is elected by mail from November 15 to 30.

Regional tourism grants announced by Manitoba minister
Province Tourism Minister Bob Banman announced total grants up to 106000 for regional chapters of the Tourist and Convention Association of Manitoba and the Winnipeg central office. Allocations include 42000 for the central office and 49000 for special regional projects, plus 2000 per region to fund a proposed Manitoba 800 Snowmobile Race.
