Holsteins Average $520 At Sale
The sixth annual Genetic Gems sale at the Sire Indexing Centre on Oct 4 1968 saw 28 Holsteins average $520 with top bid at $675. Mr M D Derksen of Carroll Man placed the top price for a cow contributed by Lewis J Nicholson of Dauphin Man. The top priced grade was a heifer from Lyall Brown of Chater Man sold for $550 to Jack Michalchuk of Elphinstone Man, the sale’s largest buyer. Lyall Brown also moved two registered and one grade heifer totaling $1650. The lowest price was $425. Animals were selected from Manitoba herds using proven AI lines over 8-10 years.
