Manitoba Allows Private Residential Extension Phones
Communications Minister Len Evans announced Manitobans may own their own residential extension telephones starting June 1. The Manitoba Telephone System will supply the main set, and phones sold to the public must meet established technical standards to protect the network. The MTS will enforce standards with industry and Canada Standards Association guidelines, and retailers are expected to cooperate. Public information plans and board arrangements will be completed in coming weeks to implement the policy.
