The Cardinals defeated Souris 9-7 on Tuesday June 27 at Souris in MSBL play. A 12 hit attack featured Barry Wowk and Glen Katchin homering. Katchin Mazur McGehee and Marion Kotelinski each collected two hits for the winners while Souris’s Don Horton Ray Bruels and Stan Furman led their offense.

The Department of Renewable Resources and Transportation Services in Manitoba announces licence draws for elk and elk moose hunting. Forty-two hundred twenty residents may enter draws for adult male elk in zones 18 18A 18B from Sept 11 to Oct 14. A second draw offers 105 licences for elk of either sex in zones 13 13A 18 18A 18B from Dec 11 to Dec 23. An additional 1,000 licences for one elk or one moose of either sex are available in zones 23 and 23A around Riding Mountain NP from Jan 2 to Feb 3, 1979, plus a bow season Aug 23 Oct 31 nearby. Applications must be filed by July 14. Those with 1977 elk firearm licences cannot hold elk or elk moose firearm licences this year, but may take archery licences. A drawn licence prevents holding another type in the regular firearm seasons.
