MTS Advises Holiday Long Distance Calling Plan
The Manitoba Telephone System projects 175 000 long distance calls on Christmas Day up from 162 000 last year with 100 000 within Manitoba and 75 000 outside. Direct dial is encouraged to save time and money, and presearching overseas numbers is advised as directory services may be limited during holidays. US calls over 556 kilometres have reduced rates since Nov 1, and Sunday rates apply on Christmas and New Year’s Days with evening rates after 6 PM on Christmas Eve.

Manitoba Colleges to Close for Christmas Break
Education Minister Maureen Hemphill announced that Manitoba's three community colleges Red River Winnipeg Assiniboine Brandon and Keewatin The Pas will close for the holiday period from December 24 at 1 00 PM to January 2. The shutdown aims to save about 32000 in energy costs and does not affect classes as campuses halt operations across the system.
