Record deer season brings many trophies in Manitoba
The 1963 Deer Season produced a record number of outstanding trophies as Ken Hawkins expects many entries for the Manitoba Federation of Game and Fish Associations trophy event. Boone and Crockett scoring rules are used, and Area 7 produced a standout display at the Morden association banquet. In hunting reports, Area 6 near Dauphin saw fewer deer, while western areas reported strong results. Licensed sportfishers are reminded to return licences to aid biologists, and winter fishing is picking up with lakes iced over and shacks rising at popular spots. The Mt. Agassiz highway near McCreary becomes busy as Manitoba builds its new winter recreation area, including a T-Bar lift system. In closing, two friends finally bag deer on the last day of the 1963 hunt, one with a big buck and another with a spike horn.
