Province aids re opening of Savage Island fish plant in North
Manitoba funds up to 40000 to help Island Lake fishermen restart the Savage Island Fish Plant and support a fall fishery. Social Development Minister Ken MacMaster says aid covers labor costs and aims to reduce welfare costs amid FFMC closure and local unemployment. He faults federal partners for failing to provide adequate subsidy support while noting the province maintains northern freight subsidies. A separate grant of 3000 is announced for the Delta Waterfowl Research Station to finish a three year duck habitat study focusing on dabbling ducks and their young.
