Harvest Festival at Parkland Draws Big Crowds
Large crowds attended the Parkland Harvest Festival at Rossburn and Rossman Lake last weekend. Friday featured a successful Outdoor Bingo and a Teen Dance at Town Hall with Copperfield from Winnipeg. Saturday offered Pancake Breakfast, Gymkhana and Rodeo, races, and a Senior Citizens Tea. Over 1506 people joined the day, while entries rose to over 800, up nearly 30 percent. Invitational Ladies Fastball saw Angusville win first and Foxwarren second.

Routine Meeting of L.G.D. of Park
A regular meeting of the Local Government District of Park was held on August 14 1978 in Russell Manitoba with Reeve R Nowalkowski presiding and Councillors present. Cool weather signals summer’s end with near autumn conditions through Tuesday. Weekend temperatures resembled early autumn, scattered light frost reported Saturday morning, and daily highs ranged in the 60s to 70s with lows in the 30s to 50s, echoing last year’s cooler pattern.
Harvest Festival Bingo Draw At Open Air Event
A large crowd attended the Open Air Bingo at the Fair grounds as part of the Parkland Harvest Festival drawing nearly 350 bingo fans in 140 cars. Prizes totaled 1350 with multiple winners including Mrs Peart Brooks Alta and Willard Huntinghawk in Game 1 ties and Rodney Nychuk with Margaret Kachan in Game 2.

The regular meeting of the Rural Municipality of Rossburn convened at 8 00 A M on Monday August 14 1978 in the Council Chambers. Motions approved include reading July 10 17 and July 28 30 1978 minutes, accepting July 1978 financial statement, filing July information, reading By Law 1057 for Tax Sale Certificate 5 transfer to Michael John Schwaluk, and By Law 1058 for Tax Sale Certificate 6 John Shwaluk. Also approved revised Statement of Values for insurance of 365 950 00 and a 250 donation to the Rural Municipality.

Wheat Board advisory meeting weighs grain transport limits
The Wheat Board Advisory Committee met August 15 1978 with ten members three commissioners and senior staff present. They discussed record producer deliveries as the season ends and projected near record exports for 1972 73. Transportation slowed in July. Churchill strike threatens movement with 110 workers only 28 full time. A motion urged Otto Lang to settle the Churchill strike. No issues at Thunder Bay or Vancouver. Additional hopper cars will be scarce as the federal government plans no further purchases. Possible use of Canadian cars hauling lumber to the U S Midwest and returning with grain was noted. Prices for barley were discussed.
