Promotion Club weighs Rolfe bank push and tax talk
The Promotion Club met Thursday with Dr. W. W. Beam as chairman. They discussed obtaining a bank for Rolfe and the impact of a retail sales tax plan proposed by Representative Marion Bruce. Prospects include Chas F Watts backing a sub bank and stock buyers needed to support a bank, with deposits likely insured up to $15 000 by July. F J Castle and son of Freeport Neb and Bill Rademacher of Milford are potential investors needing about $5 000. Bruce's tax talk spurred an agreement to back a state wide plan to tax 14 cent purchases or less exempt, 1 cent to 6 cents for 1 to 66 cents, and 2 cents for 66 cents to $1.00.
