Rocky Ford Wins Inter scholastic Track Meet Title

Rocky Ford high school topped the Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico league meet with 44 points, defeating Raton Trinidad La Junta and Las Animas. De Long of Raton led individual scoring with 13 1/2 points, while Clore of Rocky Ford claimed 13. The day featured running, jumping, throwing events and an oratorical contest with awards to Donnelly of Raton and Combs of Rocky Ford.

Brightness and Beauty Marked the Opening of a New Store

The formal opening of Mrs. Mattie Hulse's new South Main Street shop drew crowds on a Wednesday afternoon. Wax beauties in display, lingerie, china, and art goods filled the bright interiors while Miss Kilgore of La Junta provided entrancing music. Reporters mingled with visitors as carnations accented lapels.

Harsin is Re-elected Rocky Ford School Director

In Rocky Ford the election for school director drew 754 votes with F. M. Harsin receiving 671 votes and N. J. Miller 163. The crowded Liberty school lobby showed strong interest in school matters on a chilly election day.

Tucker Bros Move Back to Elm Avenue Shop

Tucker Bros. returned to their old stand at 917 Elm Avenue after renovations to a four chair shop. The Hartley store annex space was remodeled, new plate glass front installed, and the entire interior repainted and redecorated to present modern, well equipped barber services in the Valley.

Surprise Parties Mark Two Local Wedding Anniversaries

On Friday last Mr. and Mrs. Willis Boyd marked 25 years of marriage with a surprise gathering by the Rebekah Lodge and Woman's Relief Corps at S. O. O. F. Hall. About forty ladies rode to the Boyd home for dinner, then presented a silver piece to Mrs. Boyd. Photos were taken and guests departed satisfied. Later, Mrs. Laura Seller’s 62nd birthday was celebrated at her North Seventh Street home with a surprise six course dinner prepared by neighbors. Miss Sadie Seller helped arrange the event.

Colorado Pioneer Mourns Loss Of Local Farmer Robert Hauck

An Associated Press dispatch reports the death of Robert Hauck, a prominent farmer near Longmont aged 78. His passing leaves T. F. Godding, Sr. as the sole surviving member of a Madison Wisconsin party that traveled to Colorado in 1869 with ox teams. Neighbors and friends for years, four families made the long journey and settled near Longmont in March 1869.

Library Contract Let To Crowder and Herring

Cat survives shooting duel by two soldiers on West Swink

Two neighborhood veterans armed with carbines shot at a rebellious cat on West Swink avenue. The cat remained perched on a fence, grinning as spectators claimed the incident proves a cat has nine lives and that homes feel safer with the marksmen nearby.
