Rich Holbrook region fuels Shelton growth hopes
Report on Paul Kennedy and Tribune editors touring Holbrook country details Shelton on A W Sheltons ranch above the Holbrook ditch. Rail lines Holly Swink and Arkansas Valley pass through the town with land tracts of three to twenty acres nearby. The soil suits sugar beets and cantaloupes, shipping facilities are strong. A Shelton pump house uses gravity fed water from Holbrook canal with a 4500 gallon per minute pump, distributing via gravity ditch methods. The system promises widespread cultivation of hundreds of acres above the ditches and supports new town expansion.
