Rocky Ford council meeting delays highlight town affairs

Acting Mayor Sprinker chaired most of the session as Mayor Pollock was detained. Aldermen Gauger Amos and Baldwin formed a working quorum, with Ritchie resigning as park tender due to ill health. Robbins was elected, salary set at 50 dollars monthly. Building permit applications for Grossarth and ICCF approved. Gerbing applications held for more info. Health police committee to hire a dog catcher. Water Commissioner tasked with compiling water tax data for next meeting. Presbytery of Pueblo convenes in Rocky Ford next week, with sermons by Rev. J. T. Thomas Jr and addresses by W. C. Isett. Public invited.

WETS VERSUS DAYS IN LOCAL OPTION RACES

The local option issue dominated Tuesday elections with strong Anti-Saloon League gains. Illinois and Michigan shows notable prohibition wins. In this state the wets carried mining areas while dries advanced in farming regions. In five nearby towns Ordway and Sugar City went dry, Holly Lamar and Las Animas stayed wet by 16 to 43 vote margins.

Reception to Probationers at Methodist Church

The Pastor's Guild hosted a Tuesday night reception for new church members by letter or probation since last September. Blue ribbons marked newcomers while pink ribbons signified probationers. An address of welcome opened the program followed by songs and a Ruth Collins recitation. Refreshments concluded a sociable evening for all attendees.

Carnegie approves Rocky Ford library plans ready for bids

The Rocky Ford Public Library project received a favorable letter from Mr. Carnegie declaring the plans and specifications complete and approved. The library board is prepared to let a building contract, with bids due by April 22 to treasurer W. G. Steele at his office where plans can be viewed.

Mrs Temple's Telegram to Open at Grand Next Monday

New York and London hit farce will be staged at the Grand with lavish production and a fine company. The play, originally at Madison Square Theatre, was brought to Rocky Ford by Stockwell and MacGregor, promising eastern success locally and strong comic results.

Board adourned meeting notes at Arkansas Valley Fair

The Arkansas Valley Fair Association held an adjourned board meeting on Monday after W D Purse resigned. Secretary Hall's fate was deferred again, grounds committee to consult Buffalo Jones over hybrid animal exhibit, and a contract with A L Pepper for grounds use was approved. A grounds moving committee and a premium list revision directive were set, with adjournment to April 25.

Brawley Plans Cantaloupe Day With Grand Barbecue

Patterns after Rocky Ford and Watermelon Day, Brawley in Imperial Valley California will hold the first Cantaloupe Day festival on Wednesday June 10. Boosters aim to outdo previous events with a melon feast and a grand barbecue to follow.
