Obituary notes Joseph Mattingley born 1828 Flint Island Perry County Indiana died at his Eureka area home after a six month illness. Survived by two sons George and James B. and a second wife Mary Allen. A lifelong Democrat active in community life. Funeral held at Eureka Baptist Church with Missionary Baptist and Masonic affiliations. Interment Richardson Cemetery.

Spencer County Charities Report Documents Inmates Health and Farm Conditions
The Spencer county board of Charities and corrections met August 26 1908 with D S Tullis Mrs R Haines Mrs Anna Wrigh Mr D S Tullis and Jas G Taylor present. Prisoners in the jail numbered five and the facility was clean with a sanitary closet. The orphans home housed twenty children nine boys and eleven girls all healthy and content. Improvements noted on the farm buildings and a recommendation for electric lights and a furnace at the home. County Farm population reported as fourteen eight men and six women all in good health with ten dead cattle four cows seven horses and forty swine. Superintendent Mr Co Brown resigned effective September 1. Building conditions were worsening and a recommendation to the Board of commissioners for action was made. Also noted were new suits Charles Leich & Co versus Dwight L Bryan et al. and the death of Francis M Thurman a Spencer county citizen who served in the Civil War and left a wife four sons and two daughters. Funeral held at residence 274 miles west of Grandview conducted by Rev John Asher with I O O F in charge and interment at Grandview cemetery.
