Open break between Governor Hanly and senators averted

Indianapolis September 28 A clash between Governor Hanly and Republican senators was avoided by counsel. Senator Stephens proposed a sharp rebuke against the governor for opposing the Vincennes university claim. A caucus condemned the move but the resolution was not sent. The senate will not recognize the governor’s demand to repudiation the Vincennes claim. The governor is pleased with passage of the county option bill and will not press the Vincennes matter. The senate passed night rider bills with 10 004 for special officers and penalties for destroying tobacco. The only major measure before the senate is a proposed constitutional amendment to ban liquor manufacture and sale in Indiana, which appears unlikely to pass. Some minority senators may try to influence it but it will likely die in Judiciary Committee A. Leading Republican lawyers say only one constitutional amendment can be pending at a time.
