First Veteran Dies George W Bodenhamer of Spencer County
George W Bodenhamer, the first Spencer county man to enlist in the Civil War, died at his Williamson street home in Evansville at an early Wednesday hour. He was 75. He joined the 14th Indiana from Evansville after a flat boat sinking stranded him on the trip to the Southern market. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. from his Williamson street residence, conducted by Rev. J. M. Daniels under the James C Veatch post G A R. He is survived by two sisters Mrs J H Walker and Mrs Lavena Miles and a brother Lon Bodenhamer.

National Draft Drawing Held in Washington
Yesterday in the same Washington committee room used for the first draft drawing Secretary Baker blindfolded drew the first number from the bowl. The 800000 men registered for military service last June were in order. The Democrat will publish next week the names in Spencer county whose numbers match those drawn at the lottery.
