Second Guy's Reserve Camp At Purdue For Spencer County Boys
The second Guy's Reserve camp opens at Purdue on July 10. One hundred boys aged 15 to 20 with the required qualifications will train two weeks at Purdue then four weeks on farms to aid production and conservation. Candidates must not be already farming or in school. Guardianship and welfare are emphasized. Benjamin Branch and Robert Kellams will represent Spencer County in this camp.

Board of Review completes work in Spencer County
The Spencer county board of review finished its thirty day session on Tuesday with few complaints. Assessments were revised only slightly, personal property and improvements rose by 636,680 over 1917. Total taxable property including railroads and utilities will exceed 9,000,000 in 1918. Only St. Meinrad did not raise its value, showing a 1,240 drop. Mortgage exemptions total 350,730. Township by township credits were claimed except in St. Meinrad. Major corporations listed with assessed amounts include Farmers Bank 31,460 First National Bank 29,100 Old Rockport Bank 33,400 and several others across banking, manufacturing, and utilities.

Melvin Ice Injured By Mowing Machine at Cross Road
Melvin Ice, 72, an elderly farmer near Cross Road church, suffered severe injury to his left leg when his mowing machine dragged him. He tied a sock above the wound to stem blood loss and was able to send for help. doctor later expected to save his foot.

Heavy conscription call lists 97 Spencer county registrants
The conscription board issued a call for 97 men from Spencer county to enter training for war service around July 25. Of 76 from class one, 21 will be drawn from reclassification or June 5 registrants. The list of June 25 registrants shows names and numbers for the draft, including numerous men from Rockport, Rockport area and surrounding towns, all slated for Camp Taylor.

The will of Hugh G. Hamilton of Ghip township dated March 5 1918 was probated last week. It leaves all property to daughter Michel Boyd after paying debts with the will witnessed by T C Hamilton and R Roberts. The Varner will dated March 28 1902 probated last Saturday names Alonzo Varner as executor and directs payment of debts with real estate to be sold if needed. Jacob Varner died June 25.

Commissioners Court Keeps Busy In One-Day Session
The board met in regular session with Commissioners Fireman and Dawson present and Wm F. Squire absent. They awarded contracts for county infirmary groceries and for dry goods led by Thomas W. Savace. Viewers favored Harrison Township highway work. Eleven liquor license applications were dismissed as state prohibition upheld. Highway improvements were continued. Drainage bonds in Hammond Township were ordered sold to cover about $6,002.
