Commencement at Chrisney for Spencer County eighth graders

The Spencer county eighth grade graduates will hold commencement at the Chrisney fair ground on Saturday June 11. Students and officials meet on Railroad street at 1 30 pm marching to the grounds where program begins at 2 pm with band music choir songs an invocation by Rev L T Taylor an address by Prof L J Roettger diploma presentations by A B Lindsay and the day closes with God Be With You played by the band and sung by the audience Dr P S Coultas serves as marshal of the day.

Pastor Gerdon to Leave Rockport for Loogootee July 11

Rev. Joseph Gerdon will depart around June 11 to become pastor at the Catholic church in Loogootee Indiana. He has many friends in Rockport and at St Bernard’s Catholic church and his departure is regretted. Successor at Rockport is not yet announced.

Tweedy and Pierson Nominated by Warrick Spencer Republicans

The Warrick and Spencer county Republican convention nominated Marshall Tweedy of Boonville for judge of the circuit court and Frank Pierson of Rockport for prosecuting attorney. A quiet meeting featured several speakers aiming to dispel fears of intraparty conflict and to urge unity before the election.

Davis Extradited for Forgery To Peoria Authorities

Harley Davis, jailed on a charge of stealing Mrs. America Harter’s pocketbook at Gentryville, pled guilty before Squire Jones. He was delivered to Peoria police on Tuesday to face forgery charges there. Governor Marshall honorably issued requisition papers for his return. Davis may also face Missouri forgery charges with a $25 reward paid to Sheriff Sohn.

Porter Dies During Buffaloville Memorial Program

James S. Porter a longtime Buffaloville veteran and commander of the post collapsed and died in the Methodist church at the start of memorial day exercises. He served in Co F 101st Indiana Infantry and left a wife four sons a brother and two sisters. Funeral held at Little Pigeon church led by Revs Oster and Kerr.

Hatfield post office offers 198 dollars yearly. An examination will be held at Rockport on June 25 to test qualifications for the Hatfield office. Applicants must be 21 or older for men and 18 or older for women and reside in the Hatfield territory.

Adjudged Insane Ira Eggleston Held in County Jail

In Squire Jones court last Tuesday Ira Eggleston of Jackson township was adjudged insane and dangerous to be at large. He is confined in the county jail with a bid for admission to Evansville asylum. Testimony from Mrs Eggleston neighbors and doctors Walters Weiss supported the finding. Eggleston was a prominent local teacher with a wife and one child.

Curfew Ordinance Enforced Starting Monday June 6

A curfew ordinance becomes fully operative on Monday June 6, establishing enforcement measures citywide. Authorities urge residents to comply as the law takes effect and patrols increase to ensure public safety.

The secretary of the state board of tax commissioners lists steam railroads valued at 196,906,400 and electric properties at 22,384,027. The steam roads show an increase of 2,828,790 over last year while electric properties rise by 847.

Memorial Day Observed in Rockport

Memorial Day was observed with a student parade from the college campus to the I. O. O. F. hall and the courthouse. Rev E H Boldrey read Governor Marshall’s proclamation and C C Mason read Gettysburg Address. William F Adams delivered the main address.

Gardner printing plant to be sold at public sale

The Gardner printing plant in Princeton will be sold at public sale on Tuesday June 14 by Receiver Harvey Harmon. The printery in Southern Indiana was driven out of business by consistently low prices, with Owensville firms cited for cut throat pricing.

Large Reception at Fuerster Residence

A large Wednesday reception from 2 to 5 pm at the new Fuerster home on 4th street featured Mrs John H Fuerster and a host of helpers in the receiving line. Roses lilies and smilax adorned the halls and dining room while a centerpiece of crimson ramblers graced the table. Cake and pink and white ices were served with favors pinned by Dora Fuerster and Berry Morgan.
