William Jennings Bryan spoke at the Grandview chautauqua on Friday, enthralling an audience for over two hours with lessons on education, religion, and government. He praised prohibition, lauded the W C T U, and contrasted earning power with societal contribution while noting the path from White House to platform and back.
Horsemen head to the Rockport fair grounds as the event nears, using the site for training and preparation ahead of the fair. Local stables and trainers coordinate practice times and routes to ensure readiness for racing and exhibitions.

Mrs Frederick Lauenstein Evansville district P T A chair speaks Wednesday. Benjamin F Burris state superintendent elect attends Thursday to address the group.
Six people riding in a Ford touring car were bruised and scratched when the vehicle crossed an embankment at Shiloh church. Mrs Charles Darneal was driving, joined by Mr and Mrs John Darneal and son Charles, Kathryn Harper, all of Louisville, and Mrs Minnie Oelze. The accident happened as they turned from Eureka road onto the cross road at Shiloh church. The car belonged to John Darneal. Top and fenders were smashed and the windshield broken.

The will executed April 9, 1921, and witnessed by John and Frank P. Dilger, is probated. Joseph Ofer of Mariah Hill bequeathed one room in his residence and $250 to his mother during her lifetime. The remainder goes to his wife Elizabeth Ofer. He died July 30, 1921.
Miss Julia Himmelheber was surprised with a party celebrating her four teenth birthday. Forty five friends attended for games music and dancing. Refreshments of ices cake and candy were served. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs Gideon Russell and son of Evansville Miss Helen Sandsberry of St Louis and Miss Juanita Yeager of Louisville.
Wednesday evening at the Alhambra theatre Miss Armorel Poole entertained in honor of her guest Miss Azalia Scott of New Albany. The party included Miss Estella Peek Miss Helen Blanford Miss Lillian Hoch Miss Esther Pyle Miss Ruth Bottonfield Miss Lelia Cochran Miss Helen Rhodes and Miss Laila Martin all of this city and Miss Eric Strad Evansville.
The Rockport fair set for August 24 to 27 attracts horsemen with nine runners and twelve trotters in training. The fair grounds receive stall overhauls and land purchase secures square plots. Downey Kessner leads the Rockport band as preparations continue under general superintendent Charles Lieb.
Death of Mrs. George Carey announced as she passed away July 30, 1921 in Los Angeles. The burial occurred August 3 in Topeka after a trip from Las Vegas New Mexico where Maud Carey Barber learned of the passing. She was formerly Mollie McKinley and sister of Henry McKinley of Rockport. She leaves two daughters a son a brother and several nieces.
School trustees publish a roster of 12 teachers with assignments including New Boston Huff and Maxville. Vacant primary positions and under consideration listings signal staffing changes. Teachers are urged to come to the trustee John H. Waninger's office August 31 or September 7 with licenses, success grades, and signed contracts as required by law.
Legion boys vote to deed the Brenner home to Post 254 of the American Legion with a condition that the city council and four church committees must approve future disposal. A marker will be placed for Miss Anna Brenner at Sunset Hill hydrant, and her will funds city water line extension to the cemetery. Mr and Mrs Alan Mohr travel from Madison Wisconsin by canoe toward Rockport Illinois planning five weeks on the water. They left Madison August 5 and today are in Sterling Michigan en route via Cairo Illinois and the Ohio River. They carry a tent about 150 pounds of rations and sleep outdoors unless rain forces camping indoors. A letter said they carried the canoe and provisions two miles over a dam at Janesville Wisconsin. They expect to reach Rockport around September 9.
Captain WT Rasor on leave learned he has been transferred from the cavalry to the signal corps. His commission dates back to October 12, 1917, and his future stationing location has not yet been notified.
Announcement reveals the marriage of Myler Shrode and Miss Bessie Frank occurred February 18 in Henderson Kentucky. The couple kept the union secret until last Friday and plan to begin housekeeping on the Eureka road farm after a trip to French Lick and West Baden Springs. Myler Shrode, son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Shrode, graduated in 1919 from Purdue agricultural college. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Will Frank.

Dr and Mrs K C Atchison left last Sunday on a motor trip to New York City to visit relatives during August. Dr Atchison will undertake some postgraduate work while there.
Miss Eunice Parker of Washington DC is at home in Hatfield for a two week vacation. She spent Wednesday with Mr and Mrs Salem Parker.
