Homecoming Week Activities Begin with Coronation Night
Rock Valley High starts Homecoming on Thursday October 3 at 7 30 pm with coronation of royalty. Three senior boys and three senior girls were chosen to compete for queen Susan Ven Zee Kay Yates and Pam Bunch are candidates for queen while Bruce Kopina Dave Reinke and Randy Porter vie for king. Attendants include juniors Gerigog Susin ande gant Grag Santema and Don Klein. Alumni will attend and speeches honor past Homecomings. Pep rally and bonfire follow behind the gym with a snake dance. Friday features a downtown parade with floats and judging then a Stanxland Conference football game Akron vs Rockets at 7 30 pm.

Rock Valley American Industrial Arts Student Association held a September 17 meeting at 7 40 p m in the gym with recreation by the FFA The group approved framing picture projects for sale Dave Suter was named chairman of mass producing them A refreshment stand bid for basketball games was authorized and a homecoming float was planned The executive campaign is guiding future meetings and field trips.

Three Red Rock Game Areas Open To Hunting In Marion County
The State Conservation Commission announced that three separate tracts of the Red Rock Game Management Area in Marion County are open to hunting. The tracts north of the Des Moines River total about 2,000 acres.

Orange City Tornado Ravages town and area Sunday
A tornado struck the west end of Orange City causing overturned trees roofs blown off buildings and power outages. Homes at the Pioneer nursing home were damaged while Hellmage Home sheltered patients. Other twisters near Alton and Hospers caused minor damage with heavy rain reported across Sioux and LeMars counties.

Arlene Ranschau Wins FB Contest in 1968 Start
Arlene Ranschau of rural Rock Valley won the first Bee Football contest of 1968 missing only six of twenty one. She beat Raymond Kramer of Doon by one point on a tie-breaker and won five dollars. Kramer received three dollars for his own map. Milton Seler and Bardenaguma of Rock Valley shared a dollar for third.

New City Well To Supply Growing Valley Water Needs
City employee Larry Van Berkum inspects a new well on school property 1/4 mile north of Timmer and Sipmay building on 17th street. The 12 foot deep well holds about 55 feet of water with 500 gallons per minute capacity. A 12 inch casing and steel screen protect the intake. 1,300 feet of pipe will bring water to the present network. The old wells cannot meet rising Walter Valley demand.

Fred Younkers Return From Europe Visit
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Younker and Mazo returned home Tuesday September 1 after four weeks in Europe. A Volkswagen provided for the Younkers traveled about 4600 miles as they visited relatives in Switzerland and toured Germany Denmark and Norway. They found Europe a progressive country with much building and were glad to be back in the United States.
