Local Woman Injured in Hiway Mishap Near Rock Valley
Mrs Cornelius Vander Vliet suffered back injuries and broken ribs in a Tuesday morning two car collision at an intersection three miles south and one mile west of Rock Valley. Bert Bollinger of Le Mars sustained shoulder injuries. Both were taken by Porter ambulance to Sioux Center hospital. Patrolman Ronald Hintch investigated.

Jerry P. Schutt 61 bank president for 24 years died in Memphis September 15. Services conducted by Dr Nelson A Price at Haltend Mich with burial in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Survived by wife Lucy one daughter Kathleen Richardson of Memphis two sons Robert Hinsdale Ind and Paul Kenosha Wis two sisters Mrs William Beckman Sr Hulland seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was born in Michigan moved to LeMars 1906 Sioux Center 1913 where he chartered Valley State Bank later moved to Hock Valley in 1934. He served as mayor of Sioux Center. Rock Valley Community Betterment Council held its September session at the AL Porter home with John Kragt reporting on a proposed new Rock Valley post office. A private-financed building leased to the postal department is planned. a Washington petition supports the need. The council backs hospital and golf course construction funding and will elect a new executive committee on October 12 at 7 30 p.m. Delegates are urged to attend the annual meeting.

Nephew of Thayer Dies From Viet Nam Wounds
Taylor a nephew of Rock Valley resident Robert Thayer died from wounds received in Vietnam. He had stayed with the Thayers often and was a Marine Corps member sent to Vietnam in February. Lt Tayloe died in a California hospital on September 9. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Robert W Taylor of Pueblo Colorado and is survived by his parents and a sister Mrs Brent Ward.
