Gerald Vis wins undisputed honors by correctly predicting 21 of 25 games in this week’s football contest. Howard Vande Weerd is runner up with 20, and Lake Timmer takes third with 19. Upsets include Purdue over Notre Dame and Washington State over Minnesota. all top three also picked Kentucky over Mississippi and Purdue again. Nine contestants had 48 correct games. tie breaker scores were missed by two entrants.
The Rev. Joe Hale, Methodist church staff evangelist, will speak Thursday October 7 at 6 30 p m. A dinner precedes the program with singing and lay business. Sub district leader A L Porter will preside as about 209 men attend. Hale formerly worked as a stage magician and studied at Asbury College and Southern Methodist University.
Funeral services for Elizabeth Frembgen Leiferman, 70, who died Friday in a Sioux Falls hospital, were held Monday at St James Catholic Church in Chamberlain. She was sister to Frembgen of Rock Valley and survived by three daughters, one son, 11 grandchildren, and siblings John and Opal. Attendees from Chamberlain included Mr and Mrs John Frembgen, Mrs Leo Frembgen, Mr and Mrs Robert Een of Hartley.
The Rock Valley JV defeated Sioux Center JV 7 to 0 at Sioux Center on Monday night. In a tight first half no points were scored, with Rock Valley breaking through in the third quarter on a Larry Vugteveen run and a Vugteveen to Witte pass for the touchdown.

A lightning sparked blaze early Monday razed the Sioma Electric building and wiped out its inventory. Rock Valley and Hull departments protected neighboring shops, with remains smoking near 3 a.m. Insurance covers store contents and rebuild plans follow. The Warren Cafe offered shelter and hot coffee to firefighters.

An extension course in Art will be offered by the University of South Dakota at Sheldon starting October 7. Interested persons should contact the university for details.
Rock Valley Town Council approves installation of 175 watt mercury vapor street lamps by Town Public Service Company crews. Lamps will be up to three times brighter with light distribution control and photo electric cells to switch on at darkness. IPSC manager John Vande Kerk says operating cost drops per unit of light. System owned and maintained by the company.
The first meeting of the class is on October 7 at Sheldon High School. The session starts at 7 30 A M and prior registration is not required.
An informative meeting on Tuesday in the Voc Ag Building at 7:30 pm features a panel of five discussing the Partner to Banker relationship. Farmers, friends, and neighbors are invited to attend, with a brief coffee period after the session.
Missionary Maas Vander Bilt, serving in Japan since 1965 with the Christian Reformed Church, has led mission fests in the area and spoken at Christian schools. He is the son of John Vander Bilt, former reef Rock Valley now of Ohio, 81, and a Bee subscriber.
