Iowa City officials announce Rock Valley will receive an extra 13 268 dollars from the Water Pollution Control Commission as part of a state grant for sewage treatment works. The city had already obtained 14 268 dollars and higher state allocations allow the additional funds to cover expenses for local facilities.
The paper regrets incomplete homecoming pictures as three boys were absent at the game. Jim Clausen Brad Dykstra and Mike Maassen did not have their photos taken, leaving missing images in the section.
Sixteen men completed an advanced first aid course at Egg Memorial Hospital and 12 will start a 72 hour ambulance operator training at Sioux Center Hospital October 24, meeting once weekly for 24 weeks. Rock Valley officials expect the new ambulance to arrive within months with many graduates eligible to operate it.
A small fire started by spontaneous combustion was spotted by a neighbor near the gallage behind the lumber yard and quickly extinguished by neighbors and the Rock Valley fire department. The blaze occurred about 10 p.m. Sunday and avoided disaster for the Farmer's Lumber Company.

She earned $5 for first prize while Mrs. Alex Waleaga of Boyden took $3 for second. Jack Vande Weerd and Todd Vander Velde, both of Rock Valley, shared 60 cents each for third. A possible $20 weekly prize exists for entries left at the bonus business. Last week’s bonus locations were Wink’s Bar and John E Kempema Insurance Agency.
City officials schedule a special council session with District Highway Commissioner Walter Morris to discuss Highway 18 widening through Rock Watley. Clerk Bil Van Maapen notes Morris called to arrange the meeting and warned of good and bad news, with delays plaguing the state highway plan.
