Funeral services for Joe Baatz 58 who was killed Tuesday while operating a tractor at his farm west of Rock Rapids will be held Friday at 2 00 pm in Peace Lutheran church Rock Rapids with the Rev Paul Lemke officiating He was born May 2 1907 in Aurora Illinois and moved to Sioux county later married Meta Ranschau on February 2 1938 in Canton S D Survivors include Meta his wife Jean Mrs Wallace Short Canton S D five sons Jerry Lester Robert Roger Larry and Freddie all at home one daughter and four sisters and three brothers Also surviving are four sisters and a brother from South Dakota and Iowa

Hospital board met Monday to review progress on the Hegg Memorial hospital project. April 25 was set as a tentative all-members meeting date, with a $300 minimum contribution required for membership. Contributions total about $230,000 of a $400,000 goal, and the board urged intensified fundraising this spring.

Westmar college hosted the junior high district instrumental solo and ensemble contest held Saturday March 12 at Le Mars. From Rock Valley about 63 groups participated with seven earning 1 plus ratings, 22 receiving 1, 35 earning 2, and three earning 3 ratings.
Western Christian will stage Hans Brinker or The Silver Skates by the under classmen on March 30 April 2 and 4 at 8 00 p m in the Western auditorium. The tale follows the Brinkers a poor Dutch family as father’s brain illness after a dyke fall tests their resilience and hope.
Funeral services for Mrs Clara Van't Hul were held Friday at 1 00 p m at Porter Funeral Home and 130 p m at First Christian Reformed Church with Rev Leonard Van Drunen officiating. Interment followed in Valley View cemetery. She died Tuesday March 29 at Sioux Center hospital. Born May 1896 in the Netherlands she married John Van't Hul in November 1917 and had seven children Fannie Westhuis Canton Lucy Van Voorst Eileen Van Voorst Bernice Schuett Sioux City Bernard J Rock Valley Clarence and Gerald Inwood 31 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren survive with three brothers Germ Nicholas and Cornie Baker and three sisters Al Heerma Case Bloemandall and Sam Veldkamp. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1942.
