Lynn student, a junior, was named president on April opening day for the meet held at The West. The assignment fronts the permanent program for traffic safety this past year.
The First Reformed Church hosted a Mother-Daughter Banquet on Saturday April 2 at 6 00 pm in the high school auditorium with 254 attendees. Mrs Tony Da Bey welcomed the mothers and daughters, Mrs John Van der Sanden read scripture and a poem, and Mrs Jobat Smits led prayer. After group singing, a meal was served and Beverly Gaalswyk and Mrs Oscar Vande Vegte delivered tributes to mothers and daughters. Awards were presented for the oldest mother and youngest attendee.
The senior choir accompanied by Andrea Van The Rev Henry Poppen leads meditations and a music program on Hope Haven at 7 45 p m Monday April 14. Harvey De Jager will show slides and speak. Public invited. Rock Valley Federated Woman's Club meets Friday April 15 at Mrs Charles Gayer home. meeting moved from April 8 due to union scheduling.
Schreuder rolled a 207 high game and R. von Berkum a 537 high series while Warren Case posted 878 and 867 high games. Willie Jonker totaled 648 in three games with Figg and Alteria had a 220 single. Jim Dridsen led the American League with 626 for three games and a 228 high game. Women Irene Riessen led in high game and three game totals. Mulder and Thornburg led team totals.
Lyle Kersbergen defeats Ren Henderson by one shot to take high all around honors at the Sioux Gun Club's first registered shoot of the season in Sioux City. Henderson claims the handicap title while Kersbergen shares the high over all gun title with Elmer Frederes and John Comfort after a 130 129 finish.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet in the WIFW hall Tuesday April 12 at 8:00 p.m. Attendees included Mrs Art Klein Mrs Ed Schmidt Mrs John Bauman Mrs Lyle Kersbergen and Mrs Art Bergsma following a Sioux County TH Association meeting and dinner at Sioux Center Monday.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the funeral home in Rock Rapids at 2:00 pm for Henry Steinbruck 84 of Doon who died Thursday at Sioux Center hospital He was born in Sibley Iowa and had nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren Rev Mervin Nelson officiated special music included Be Still My Soul and Asleep in Jesus Burial was in Hillside cemetery Doon Pallbearers were Heery Van To Walter Levering Carl Nagel Andrey Ten Braak Henry Ten Braak and George Scholten
The Pioneer Methodist Church welcomed eight new members at last Sunday's service led by Rev Mervin Néléon. Newly joined were Donald and Donna Klein Bonnie Vande Weerd Debbie Smith Pamela Gerritson Jeffery Vander Velde and Merle Negus. Rock Valley Christian schools announce no school for Good Friday April 8. Northwest Deanery of the Council of Catholic Women will meet in Rock Rapids Parish Hall on Thursday April 14 with registration at 9:45 followed by a board meeting Mass at 11:00 and lunch at 12:06. An open meeting is scheduled 30 p.m.
Rock Valley becomes an official city after the 2080 population count exceeds 2000 in a 1965 census drive supervised by Harold Dammermann of the Commerce Department. The preliminary figure may be revised. final certification will follow. Officials urge residents not contacted to submit names to ensure inclusion in the tally.
Rock Valley reports a tract offer for the 66 67 school year as Harlan Vande Berg a Northwestern College senior from Orange City will teach instrumental music and band. Community ties spread to Roth Valley Inwood Alvord Hull Alton Orange City and western districts. The Happy Hour club held its final meeting of the year Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs Ethel Wesselink. Cards formed the diversion for the evening.
Stanley Greigg announces approval of Work-Study Program grants to colleges. Dordt College in Sioux Center receives 2448 dollars for about 18 students. Northwestern College in Orange City receives 11832 dollars for about 32 students.
The Rock Valley Fire Department answered a roadside grass fire Saturday at 11 00 a.m. northeast of Rock Valley on the Groeneweg farm. A cigarette thrown from a passing vehicle around 4 00 a.m. is believed to have started the blaze. Several creosoted REA poles also burned before firefighters extinguished the fire in about 15 minutes.
Easter sunrise service will be held Sunday at 6 45 am in the First Reformed church sponsored by the Reformed Church Youth Fellowship. Rev Donald Lenderink of Trinity Reformed Orange City will be guest speaker. Prizes for best Easter posters by junior high students. Everyone invited.
Jim Kosters, 25, of Aurora, escaped death after their boat cap sized on Dowdy Lake 40 miles NW of Fort Collins. Donald Schieman, 23, of Avondale Drive, drowned. Kosters, aided by two forest rangers, swam to safety but could not reach shore in the cold water.
The Easter Sunrise service will be held Sunday at 6 39 am in the Northwestern college auditorium led by Vander Velde and featuring Rev Henry Poppe Rev Leonard Van Drunen and Rev Mervin Nelgon. The event is sponsored by the Reformed Church Youth Fellowship east and west Sioux Classes and open to the public.
A missing person case unfolds after a boat incident near Fort Collins. An ambulance later transported the individual to a Fort Collins hospital for evaluation before release. Authorities continued a search for Schieman, who vanished during the Hight Friday event.
