Mrs Kathryn L Cogswell died at home in Santa Ana California on March 4 of a heart attack. Services were held March 7 at Palm Beach Callatian Mission Mortuary. She was the former Kathryn Kit Hardy daughter of Ned S Handy and remembered by oldtime residents. Survived by husband six children three sisters eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Mr Cogswell in serious condition at a California hospital.
Evelyn Boeve, daughter of Case and Mrs Boeve of Rock Valley, was feted at two showers held in Hull and Rock Valley. Hostesses included Mrs Marinus Intveld and Mrs Charles Ver Steeg among others. She is to marry Arlen de Zeeuw of Rock Valley on April 1.
Neck Valley community school boys basketball team members attended the Iowa State boys basketball tournament in Des Moines last weekend. Coach Barry Horshoff and Jim Roger accompanied players Ron and Doug Kattfman Kent Pruisman Keith Boer and others. Proceeds from the seniors versus faculty game held on March 15 were sent to France.
St Mary's Parish held adult confirmation Sunday March 20 at St Patrick's Sheldon with Bishop Meullet of Sioux City presiding. Father R W Reinhart assisted as confirmands and sponsors were named including Mrs Robert Buckley and Mrs Ed De Smel, Miss Susan Hanschau, George Ripperda, and Mr and Mrs Bill Buckley.
David Hevern of Rock Valley appeared in court for driving a motor bike without a license. He was fined $10.00 with costs.
Sheldon Vocational school proposes a nurses refresher program to boost active practitioners in Iowa. In cooperation with the Iowa Nurse Association and University health occupations, the 30 to 36 hour course offers theory and 10 to 20 hours of supervised clinical work at multiple state locations.
Jake Vande Weerd was admitted to Veterans hospital in Sioux Falls after a night stroke, developing pneumonia and being listed in serious condition then slightly improving over the weekend. The Waller Vander Well remains a patient at Sioux Valley hospital. Robert Ver Mulm returned home after back surgery in Sioux City. Mrs Case Vermeer has returned home from the hospital.
After thirty years as manager at the Alvord elevator, Ed Serck retires effective March 1, ending a career that began in 1984 with a manager appointment in 1995. Harry Moelier, with 20 years at the elevator, will assume duties as manager.
