Garrit Koozenboom Gary and Garrit Brands posted cattle sales at the Sioux City Stockyards this week. Fourteen head averaged about 1211 pounds selling at 24.50 per cwt while two head near 1000 pounds sold at 23.00 per cwt. Brands also moved four whiteface steers at 1156 pounds for 24.50. Billy Bajema and Otto Bajema sold cattle including 17 head at roughly 1060 pounds for 23.33. Top money reached 26.25 for the week amid weaker prices and heavier cattle.

Elevator Fire Knocks Out Phone Service In Rock Valley
After a morning fire, Rock Valley phone service was disrupted with about 30 telephones silenced south of the tracks. Northwestern Bell worker Schar said a 400 foot cable section was borrowed from Akron project to restore lines. Local crews from Sioux City, Sibley and She Gon assisted as voltage caused damage to buried lines near the elevator.
