Businessman Of The Week Evertt Ahlers Builds Red Rock Inn Drive-In

Evertt J Ahlers owner operator of the Red Rock Inn and Parkway Drive In Rock Valley blends cafe and drive in on Highway 18. Born March 13 1940 in Worthington he moved to Clear Lake and later returned to Worthington where he finished high school in 1958. He later studied at Worthington Junior College and Calvin College Grand Rapids before dairy work auto sales and a move to Rock Valley. In 1964 he completed the Red Rock Inn Parkway Drive In on the former Parkway site and now staffs four full time and twelve part time workers. He married Alice Vanden Top in 1962 and is active in the Commercial Club and restaurant associations.

Infantry School graduate Capt Robert Bonthuis noted

Capt Robert Bonthuis completed the four and a half month Career Course at Fort Benning Georgia on June 29 as one of 192 regular and reserve officers. The program emphasized conventional and nonconventional infantry tactics at brigade and division levels with Viet Nam era instruction. Graduation will qualify him for promotion to lieutenant colonel. The Bonthuis family resides at 1817th Street and includes two children Kevin II.

Rockets Beat George High in Friday Baseball Clash

On Friday July 1 the Rockets defeated George High 9 to 3 as George committed four errors and the Rockets five. Ton Kaufman pitched for the Rockets with Denny Van Derkum catching. Ron Kaufman led with a three base hit in the fourth and Hylardies had a two base hit in the second. In the B game the Rockets won 8 to 7.

Funeral services for Bert Je Van Maanen 68 who died June 27 were held Thursday at the First Reformed church of Maurice with Rev M Hoek tan officiating. Burial was in Sherman Township Cemetery at Orange City.
