McNamara Heads To NSF Summer Science Training

Sheila M. McNamara of Rock Valley is one of 34 high school seniors chosen for the National Science Foundation Student Science Training Program in Geology at Texas A&M University. The NSF supported program brings top U S students to a summer study at a university for advanced science work.

A production agriculture course for farm veterans begins around August 4 at Northwest Town Vocational School Hastings. Resume of Girl Scout Day Camp Event Week

The girls learned camp setup and how to build fires, sewed bags from nylon for drying dishes, and raised unit flags. Scouts cooked open fire meals with squaw corn, began pledge plaques, made bug motels from milk cartons, and held a native hike with Sioux City officials visiting. A nature hike and a mass assembly honored badge recipients, closing with a flag ceremony attended by parents.

New Pace concert at Alvord by Lutheran sponsored team

The New Pace folk group, nine collegians formed in 1967 by Larry Jobinson, on an eleven week tour through eight states, will perform a music and personal witness program at Christ Lutheran in Alvord Tuesday July 2 at 8 p.m. Admission is by free will offering. The group features members from Minnesota and nearby colleges, blending religious and popular folk music.

Army National Guardmen Attend Two-Week Camp at Fort Carson

Three area Army National Guardmen joined about 1000 South Dakota guardsmen at Fort Carson Colorado for a two week summer camp. The convoy of 240 vehicles brought in units including Loren G Van Roekel Doon Ronald L Post and Joseph C Kramer. Training covered self propelled artillery and field exercises with over 3600 rounds fired.

Christian School Adds $99,000 Facility Expansion

The local Christian school society approved a $99,000 addition to present facilities. Horstman Brothers Construction of Sanborn was awarded the project, to be completed this Fall. The new wing will add two classrooms a multi purpose room rest rooms and showers. The structure measures 93 by 96 feet and is financed by supporters and the community.

Five Youths Arrested After Fairview Break-in

Five youths were apprehended after a dawn break-in at the Fairview store in Fairview, Lyon County. Police tracked a blue car seen fleeing the scene. Stolen items include 60 cartons of cigarettes 10 cartons of spark plugs and assorted candy bars. Two suspects hailed from Larchwood and two from Inwood with one from Fairview.

Flower Show Officers Named For 1969 Rock Valley Event

The Flower Show Committee of Rock Valley named its officers on Friday June 13, to run the August 1 show. Appointed were Mrs Kenneth Kenima as chairman and Mrs Dea De Wit as co chairwoman. Rain Events Drench Rock Valley Over Several Days

Weather observer Paul Beamer reports Rock Valley received 0.84 inches of rain last week with Saturday showers totaling 0.3 inches and late Saturday night into Sunday morning producing 0.32 inches. Sunday brought 0.22 inches, and early Wednesday brought a heavy 2.58 inch rainfall with a thunderstorm causing a 49 minute power outage.

LeMars Centennial Event Promises Big Barbecue and Rodeo
