Rev Leonard Van Drunen of the First Christian Reformed Church is highlighted as Clergyman of the Week. Born July 2 1924 in South Holland Illinois he served in the Air Force during WWII and pursued theology at Calvin College and Seminary before ordination in 1952. At the annual Hospital Auxiliary board meeting on Tuesday June 10 Mrs John Vande Kerk was elected president. Other new officers include Mrs Agner Terpstra vice president Mrs Dave Altera treasurer Mrs Bradley Bauman chairman of volunteer services and Mrs John Santema hospitality chairman. Hold over officers are Mrs Walt Warntjes projects chairman Mrs Ed Miller corresponding secretary and Miss Ethel McKeegan recording secretary. The group aims for 600 members and urges 1969 membership fees to fund a kitchen air conditioner.

Two R V Girls At Youth Camp Attend Liberty Camp
Deb Bourne daughter of Mr and Mrs Rock Valley and Deane Vande Pot daughter of Mr and Mrs Jon Vande Pot attended the annual CO Of Youth Leadership Camp on the William Jewell College campus in Liberty Missouri. The session ran June 9 19 with about 600 outstanding youth. Campers are sponsored by local cooperatives and youth organizations and the program aims to develop leadership and citizenship while teaching about farmer cooperatives and providing fun.

Grandson of Wielenga Dies in Sioux Center Auto Crash
Howard Gene Van Voorst 18 of Sioux Center died in a one car accident on Saturday June 14. Funeral services were held Monday at the Christian Reform Church of Lebanon Ta with Rev Duane TinWlenberg officiating. Burial followed in Lebanon Cemetery under Co operative Funeral Home Sioux Center direction. Survivors include his parents Mr and Mrs JoH Van Voorst a brother Kenneth and three sisters Lois Judy and Lisetta all of Sioux Center and grandparents Mr and Mrs Peter Wielenga of Rock Valley.

Pastor Raymond A Roloff of Pioneer United Methodist Church since June 1968 leaves Rock Valley to lead congregations at Lake View and Wall Lake. He chaired Boy Scouts and Kiwanis work, formerly taught at the Women's Reformatory in Rockwell City, and spent 11 years in Hartley. He is replaced by Rev William F Ballard from Hamburg Iowa, serving there since 1966. The transfer takes effect June 20.

The American Lutheran Church Tawa District held its annual convention at Luther College Decorah June 15 18. Keynote by Minnesota congressman Albert Quie on The Church in the World Today. About 700 pastors laymen and visitors represented 397 congregations and 208 Iowa members. Rock Valley Fire Department responded at 8:50 Monday morning to a blaze at the sewage disposal plant. Oil used for road repairs overheated and ignited, spreading flames but was extinguished with no damage to surrounding property, reports Fire Chief John Dykstra.

Car and Tractor Collision Near Rock Valley
A collision occurred Monday June 16 south of Rock Valley between a Boyden man and a Hawarden woman. Donald Lester Ver Meer, driving a tractor owned by Elroy Altena, failed to yield while turning left, striking Wilming Dekkers’ car. Dekkers lost control to the west ditch. Ver Meer was ticketed for failure to yield. Officers Art Jonker and Tony Aberson investigated.

Former Rock Valley Resident Dies in Viet Nam
Army Staff Sgt. Michiel K. Lewis, a former Rock Valley resident, was killed in Vietnam on June 13 when a booby trap struck a Riverine patrol craft. A 1964 Lake City High School graduate, he served from February 1968 after attending college briefly and earned the Bronze Star and Silver Star. He is survived by his parents A. J. and (Ms. ) Lewis, two brothers and two sisters.

Heated General Synod Vote Sparks Dissolution Debate
At the General Synod of the Reformed Church in America a plan for understanding could lead to dissolving the historic church. An 18 member committee would study reconciliation, with a second 18 member panel to draft an orderly dissolution if irreconcilable differences persist, to be reported to the 1971 Synod. Sheldon Man Hits Barricade on Highway 18
A 1968 Plymouth driven by Michael William Kelly of Sheldon, age 96, struck a barricade three miles west of Rock Valley on Highway 18 at 9:30 p.m. June 13. Front end damage was about 750 dollars. Kelly, traveling east, failed to see the barricade near the washed out Rock River bridge and was cited for vehicle control. Sgt. Hayes of the Patrol investigated.
