The Commercial Club committee announces a doubleheader baseball game for the Fourth of July dinner and festivities. A slow pitch game starts at 7:30 followed by a farmers team facing a city team, then a fireworks display concludes the evening.

The 28th annual meeting of the Farmers Elevator Co Rock Valley will be held July 28 at 8:00 p.m. Keynote speaker will be Bile Turner director of public relations for Felco headquartered Fort Dodge Ja. Turner has a lengthy public and higher education career in South Dakota and other states. Manning invites all stockholders and others interested in the cooperative to attend.

Hope Haven Staff Attend Three Day Institute

Hope Haven staff led by workshop director Lloyd Munneke will join more than 40 directors and staff from across Iowa at a three day in service institute in Iowa City. Lena Boscalion and Emma Middelkoop will attend as work supervisors. Wisconsin sheltered workshop specialists will run a program for those who work with handicapped persons.

Grass Fire Near Kooima Mach Damages Reported

The Rock Valley Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the soil bank area south of Kooima Machine on Friday. Firefighters contained the blaze quickly with reported damage but no injuries noted.

Inducted registerants join armed forces on June 25

Four County Area Selected for Law Enforcement Study

Four County area including O'Brien Sioux Lyon and Osceola Counties is chosen for a federal funds crime study to gauge rural enforcement issues. The project aims to inform a state plan, with local action at the Four County level and a July 1989 due date for data collection. County officials will be contacted. one resident from each county is employed to handle outreach.

33rd Annual Flower Show August 1 Sponsored By Local Groups

The Rock Valley Flower Show is set for Friday August 1 with sponsorship from church women and local organizations. Exhibits open 2:30 to 10:30 a.m. and must be placed by 11:00 a.m. The show runs 2:30 to 9:00 p.m. with blue ribbons for top entries and special awards for best horticultural, artistic, and decorative divisions. Judges and prizes come from area merchants. The program lists divisions and craft themes for visitors and potential exhibitors. Continued to Page 2.

Two Car Crash Near Rock Valley Leaves No Injuries

Police report a two car collision 4 1/2 miles north of Rock Valley at 12 30 a m Saturday. Drivers Lawrence Van Grootheest of Rock Valley and Ruth De Jong of Fairview 5 D sustained $1760 in damages to age vehicles. Van Grootheest received a summons for failure to leave the scene. Sheriff Craig Vinson of Lyon County investigated.

Bradley University honors Beecher graduate Robert Vogelzang

Robert Dale Vogelzang son of Mr and Mrs Theodore Vogelzang of Beecher 11 was among 827 Bradley University graduates in Peoria receiving a Bachelor of Arts in biology. He served as associate biology lab instructor during four years at Bradly University and is slated to work with the cancer research program at the University of Wisconsin Madison.

Flood Hits Rock Valley Area With Second Major Crest

Rock River swelled past banks Sunday causing extensive crop damage across the Rock Valley region. The Hash Mood crest reached 16.2 feet Monday evening, leaving 100s of acres flooded while Adrian Minnesota and Need Induets reported rising water and a boy rescue incident. Towns like Toak Rapids suffered park damage but escaped major flooding.

Hope Haven Receives Federal Grant for Training Center

Hope Haven School and Work Training Center for the Handicapped in Rock Valley was awarded a federal Establishment Grant of about 13 699.68 dollars. Funds will buy industrial equipment for the workshop used in rotational rehabilitation of handicapped adults and to perform subcontracted machine shop work for factories in the area. The grant came in cooperation with the Facilities Unit of the Town Division of Rehabilitation Education and Services.
