Porters Attend Kiwanis Convention in New York City
Mr and Mrs Al Porter and family plan a June 22 departure to New York with Mr and Mrs Herman Moen and Mrs LaVonne Mydland Tawood to attend the Kiwanis Club International golden anniversary convention July 4. The group will stay two weeks and also attend the World’s Fair. The convention program features Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, Rev Norman Vindent Pepte, Werner Gallander, Ed Moylan, Jean Lesage, and George Murphy. Rock Valley Gun Club hosted a team handicap shoot last week. The winning team of John Miller, George Keizer, Junior Warnujes, Jerry Flanagan, and Vernon Hamann totaled 2 123 with a possible high of 125 including handicaps. Second place went to Ren Henderson, Robert Moeller, O W Mouw, Ken Hansen, and Chester Vande Weerd with 125. Four more shoots remain to determine the winner.

Funeral services held for John Beek in Sheldon
Beek 93 died Saturday at Sheldon hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at 1 pm at Van der Ploeg Funeral Home Sheldon with Rev. Albert Van Dyke officiating. Born in the Netherlands January 1 1872 he came to the United States as a child and lived most of his life in Rock Valley and Sheldon where he resided in a nursing home for 12 years. Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Funeral services held for Mrs van Den Hul
Funeral services for Mrs Herman van Den Hul of Larchwood were held at 2 pm on Wednesday June 16 at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev Peter Huisman officiating. Burial followed in Valley View Cemetery. Born July 25 1886 in the Netherlands, she married Jan van Den Hul in 1906 and moved to the United States in 1920. Survivors include two daughters, three sons, 33 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, four children, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
