A small group of Rotarians and guests hosted by the Irvine Faulkners shared drinks and stories at the T N McGill home. The British visitors impressed locals with manners and accents as meaningful cultural dialogue emerged during a long evening. A separate golf incident illustrated tensions after a prank led to a potential altercation, resolved by club staff.
The Saddle will meet at the club grounds at 3 00 Friday evening. A trail ride at Newton Hills will be planned.
The Farmers Lumber Co of ht wetd held a meeting at the V E W club. Weer of Lac beard of Giafee was named. Stan McKeegan and Dykstra were re elected for three years. Articles of incorporation were renewed. Walter McNamara presided. McKeegan was secretary. Directors named included Wynia Kersbergen Vate Sanden Serels Kooima Ullman. Alvin Miller managed the Time Good Neighbors who aided Jud Hevern's corn grow. A list of attendees was provided with numerous Van Kekerix and Hevern family members. Lunch was furnished by Mrs Bert Van Kekerix and others. Community Oil Co donated gas for the Good Neighbor project, recently returned from Sioux Center hospital.
A photograph from last week shows a busy Main Street scene with enterprising businesspeople Norma Terpska Diane Postma Kay Van Tol David De Zeeuw Mark Faber and Mike Faber running lemonade stands while vending machines and automation cut into other small businesses. Customer Bernie Van Tol participates as a shopper.
The summer recreation program began Monday June 24 with Softball 9 40 Volleyball 10 11 00 Tennis 11 42 00. Arts and crafts for younger children run 9 00 to 10 00 and older groups 10 00 to 12 00. Story time is set for Thursday at 4 06 o'clock. Mr and Mrs Stanley Hewitt of Sioux Falls welcome son Scott Eugene born weighing 4 702 pounds on Saturday June 9.
Red Cross instruction for Boyden Hull begins Monday June 28 at the local pool with Rock Valley classes starting Monday July 18. Open to adults and youth at a minimal fee. Instructors include Arlyn Van Berkum David Nelson Dick Kaufmann John Rissen and assistant Jenn Kersbergen.
About 223 attended the Kick-Off dinner in Haas hall for Rock Valley hospital plans. Joan Santema presided with Tom McGill blessing and piano by Dr C FJ Schroeder. Frank McGill summarized local doctors past and present, praising Dr A L Lock and Dr LR Begg, and stressing a community effort to build the 8 bed hospital at $400,000 with $200,000 in hand from donations and pledges. A Sioux City architect and Hartley officials outlined plans and urged broad support and future expansion. A fact-finding group will travel to Des Moines to gather data and form a finance and study group.
Rock Valley Rotary club entertained Dr and Mrs Ievine Faulkner of England during a goodwill tour with a gathering at the T N McGill residence. The couple joined Rotarians and spouses for a local firms tour planned for Wednesday and a Rotary meeting that night. Dr Faulkner, a retired chemist involved in fertilizer manufacture, travels with a group of 81 on the tour.
Rock Valley Gun Club ongoing handicap shoot shows Team One defeating Team Three and Team Six beating Team Two. Top scores include Ron Henderson 24 and O Maun 25 for Team One, John Miller 9 and Vern Hitmann 24 for Team Two, with Team Four led by Junior Kooima 28 and Team Five totaling 114.
Sandra Heuer daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Heuer leaves Sunday for Omaha then to New York and Brussels Belgium. She will meet her friend Patty Mc Cullough in Paris and travel central Europe. She expects to stay at the Mc Cullough home in Viernheir Germany and return home about Sept 6.
Mr and Mrs Charles Kooima report a three week European industrial tour with Governor Harold Hughes and Iowa industrialists. They telephoned from Holland on Tuesday and expect to be home Tuesday, May 29.
The Kooima family reunion is planned for Tuesday June 29 at Rock Valley Park. Attendees expect a casual gathering with relatives from multiple generations and shared memories.
More than 800 people attended Felco Lakes Workshop for cooperative managers this week at Vacation Village on West Lake Okehoji. Attendees from Rock Valley included Mr and Mrs Owen Manning and Tom and Mary Lou, Mr and Mrs Bill Schleis, and Mr and Mrs Gerritt Van Maanen with Larry, along with Mr Menning, manager of Farmers Elevator Co in Reck Valley.
