Summer Rec Youth Day sets July 30 at Valley Park
The Summer Recreation Council winds up the program with Youth Day on Tuesday July 30 at Valley Park. Activities include a children's parade from 7 15 to 7 45 p m with four divisions, baton twirling, entertainment, a star game, and food. Story Time drew 80 youngsters and was funded by the local library. Mrs Roger Moorman, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Graves, graduated from St Luke's School of Nursing on June 9 and plans to move to Fairbanks Alaska to join her husband in the Air Force.

Rock Valley Swim Team Wins First Meet
The Rock Valley Swim Team won 395 to 130 against Hull in a Hull hosted meet. Denny Hamann received the 168 championship trophy on behalf of the Rock Valley squad as Bill Van Dyke presented ribbons to top finishers. The team prepares for the Hull Invitational on Saturday July 27 at 6 00 with invitations sent to Orange City George Stoux Center and Rock Rapids.

Welcome Rainfall Brings Problems
Weekend rains in Iowa caused power and fire issues as lightning struck at least five times. A garage fire started by a bolt near North Mainz was extinguished with little loss, while a substation arc interrupted IPS service for 15 minutes. Four light poles were struck near Town and service was restored in 10 minutes. Many streets flooded stalling cars across the area.

Car Crash Injures 19 Year Old At Rock Valley
Larry Vagteveen, 19, was slightly hurt when his 1987 Chevrolet crashed near a swimming pool area after steering loss. He received head and minor bruises, was treated and discharged the same day.
