Caravan of Hope Ends Week with Charity Country Show
The Caravan of Hope will finish its week long journey Saturday night at the bar field with a country western show to benefit Hope Haven. They left Rock Valley Monday heading to Rock Rapids Sibley Sheldon Orange City and Sioux Center traveling by wagon and performing nightly in each town. All donations at stops along the route support Hope Haven.

Doon Man Injured Foot In Mower Accident
Doon area farmer Henry Van Cort, 65, was injured when a riding mower tipped in a ditch at his home Saturday morning. He was taken to Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital then transferred to Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, listed in very good condition and expected to sit up soon. Weather notes report scattered showers and variable rainfall across the Rock Valley area.

Linda Schelhaas Named River Queen for Sioux City Event
Linda Schelhaas, a 1967 Rock Valley grad, is chosen to represent Rock Valley as River Queen for the Port of Sioux City River Code festival in Sioux City from July 31 to August 4. The winner earns a one year reign and a $1000 scholarship. contestants must be single high school graduates ages 18 to 22. Linda, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jim Schelhaas, attended Yankton State University to pursue nursing and will be a sophomore. The River Gate carnival will feature Royal United Shows with new rides, familiar favorites, Kids Day August 1-2, and twenty-two rides plus many concessions. More than 500 well wishers greeted Rt Rev Msgr Thomas J McCann in Newton for his 60 years in the priesthood.

Major Robert E Bonthuis of the Ist Air Cavalry in Vietnam earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Distinguished Flying Cross for actions February 13, 1968 near Quang Tri. He also received the Purple Heart and multiple Air Medals with Oak Leaf Clusters for aerial support during combat.
