The long itemized total shows a final balance and major line items for furniture, vehicles, publishing, maintenance, and contracted services across multiple vendors.
Peace Lutheran and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Women’s organizations held meetings in January. Peace Lutheran installed new officers led by Mrs. Robes Oldenkamp with president Mrs. Harold Hener and education secretary Mrs. Richard Schoellerman. Our Savior’s Lutheran elected president Mrs. Stanley Negaard and other officers as Bible study and programs were led by members. monthly theme centered on blessing through God’s covenant.
Funeral services for William Wynia age 76 were held January 10 at 1 30 PM at First Christian Reformed Church with Rev Leonard Van Drunen officiating. Burial followed at Valleyview Cemetery under Porter Funeral Rune. Wynia died January 7 at Valley Manor nursing home after a month of illness. He was born June 29, 1890 in Orange City and married Jennie Yugteveen on February 24, 1921 in Rock Valley. she died October 14, 1967. Surviving are two sons Henry of Rock Valley and Pier of Latchwood, two daughters Mrs Arthur De Boer of Rock Valley and Mrs Sam Alena of George, 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held for George Pals of Hull at the Hull Chuls Han Reformed Church with Rev. Willard H. De Vries officiating. Burial followed at Hope Cemetery under Kraat Funeral Home. A World War II veteran and longtime teacher and athletic director at Western Christian High School, he died Jan 14 at Hogg Memorial Hospital from a heart condition. Survivors include three teachers Emery, William and Eric. five sisters including Mrs John Roaldson and Mrs Andrew Caswell. and others in Hull, Sibley, Chino, Rock Valley and more.
Richard F Tank born December 2 1911 in Sioux County to Dorothea and Karl Tank. He married Vera Bauman February 1 1941 at Peace Lutheran Sioux Center and had son Verlyn. After farming in Garfield Township he retired to Hudson then Cantenn South Dakota where he died at 67. Funeral January 18 at Peace Lutheran rural Sioux Center with Maryin Mouw organist and duet by Mrs Reid and Mrs Rehder. Burial in church cemetery.
Funeral services were held Saturday January 1 for John 1 Van Voorst 62 at Porter Pane Home with Rev John Van Zweden officiating. Burial was at Valley View Porter Funeral Home. Van Voorst died January 1 at Hegy Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born December 18 1866 in the Netherlands he came to the United States in 1912. He married Greta Portier January 22 1884. She died December 14 1967. Survivors include three sons Marvin Whittier California Nevine and Daniel Rock Valley one daughter Mrs Albert Van Beek Rock Valley five brothers Sam Spencer William Harry Maurice and James.
The Rock Valley City Council, with Mayor Alvin Porter presiding, met for regular session. Present were councilmen John Burgere Yar Maauen Elfronson Van Yourst. absent nono Ia mation. Proceedings include hiring Ener Kley on three month trial at 150.00 retainer, 345.00 hourly credit, audits for Cala and Welle at 4963, Valley State Bank as depository, annual salaries listed for 1969, and various payments to city departments, insurance, taxes, and building permits. Building permit recipients named. William Gerritsen hired for Jan replacement.
