Windbreak plans urge farmers to aid wildlife habitat
The Iowa Conservationist notes several state programs offering trees, shrubs, and labor to create shelter belts. John Kersbergen visited the Des Moines Conservation Commission for blanks, urging interested farmers to apply soon as the program has limited time and funds. Expanded windbreaks protect pheasants, reduce winter losses, and support wildlife. cost-shares cover up to 60 percent for planting shrubs and windbreaks, with $200 to $850 limits. Community groups and individuals are invited to help with planting, with benefits growing over several years. Local notices mention visits by the Campbell and Hubertson families relatives in the area.
